Abstract
Sustainability in higher education institutions: A systematic review. The
purpose of the research was to explore how the topic of sustainability in higher
education institutions has been addressed in the scientific literature over the
years. In addition, it aimed to identify the need to consolidate fragmented
knowledge into new knowledge, by mapping the identified profiles. To this end,
the study combined systematic literature review and bibliometric analysis. The
results showed that the topic of sustainability in higher education institutions
has been in an emerging period since 2010, and most initiatives are being
conducted through theoretical and conceptual methods, considering the tripod
environment, economy and society. The study was able to point out the behavior
and evolution of the literature on the topic and infer that the characteristics
of methodology, type and dimension of the articles are related, enabling data
validity and study replicability.
